Transmeta Recap
Compaq and IBM jump off the Transmeta train
In the last few weeks, both Compaq and IBM have suspended their plans to integrate the Transmeta Crusoe chip into their computers.

Compaq's PC Group had intended on using the Crusoe chip in their Armada line of notebook PCs. IBM had also planned on using the same chip in their notebook computers.

One of the main causes for this could be the benchmarks which PC Magazine had released on the Transmeta chip. On their Winstone benchmark, the Transmeta chip performed at about one-third of the speed of the Intel chips. Transmeta has not rebutted any of the low benchmark scores and Intel is slated to introduce a low-power Pentium III chip.
